A Clarksville woman was arrested after her 4-month-old son was found alone in her apartment, crying and covered in feces and urine, according to an arrest warrant.
Detectives estimate the infant was left unsupervised for 24-48 hours before he was found.
According to an arrest warrant, Clarksville Police went to an apartment on Cobalt Drive Monday evening. There they met a woman who said the infant’s aunt called to check on the baby.
The aunt thought the woman had been caring for the boy because that’s what his mother told her, according to a warrant.
The woman went to the apartment, and from the parking lot could hear a child crying. She knocked on the door but no one answered.
The woman used a card to get inside and found the baby on the floor by himself.
He was wearing only a t-shirt and diaper, and his diaper was full and overflowing.
His t-shirt had feces and urine stains going about three-quarters of the way up the back, the warrant said.
The woman turned the shirt over to police.
The warrant said,
“It is believed the child was left in the residence without any supervision for approximately 24 to 48 hours.”
The boy’s mother, Brooke Jenkines, 21, was charged Tuesday with aggravated child abuse and neglect. She was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on $25,000 bond.
According to her arrest warrant, she told a Department of Children’s Services investigator that the child was left alone for approximately three-and-a-half hours.
