A man in New Mexico has been charged with beating his friend to death. Sad, right? Here comes the weird twist — the 23-year-old suspect, Damon Perry, claims the incident happened because he thought his friend was turning into a zombie. They’d been drunkenly binge-watching “The Walking Dead” on Netflix, so … zombies suddenly everywhere, obvs.
According to CNET, Perry told officers he and his friend, Christopher Paquin, had consumed multiple 40-ounce bottles of malt liquor when Paquin began “to change into a zombie.”
The police statement reportedly reads, “Perry alleges the victim was attempting to bite him, so he reacted by brutally beating the victim.”
And though Perry admitted to punching and kicking his friend, Paquin was also reportedly beaten with an electric guitar and a microwave oven, as well as being stabbed with a knife.
“In my 13 years of doing this, that was the most brutal scene I have ever seen,” Grants Police Department spokesman Moses Marquez noted, per KOAT.
Authorities were called out last Thursday to the apartment complex in Grants, New Mexico after Perry was spotted chasing and threatening people with a knife. Maintenance workers were reportedly able to subdue and restrain Perry until cops arrived. When they showed up, officers found Paquin’s beaten corpse inside one of the apartments.
Perry is now being held for murder in the Cibola County detention center. No more “Walking Dead” for him, we hope.
