1.The good news first and then the bad news
Edwyna and TJ Irwin were over the moon when they came to know that Edwyna was pregnant. This was a dream of the couple, who were very excited and eager to start a family. During a routine checkup, doctor decided to perform an ultrasound so that the development of the baby could be checked and that’s when the couple got the surprise of their life. Edwyna was pregnant with two children, and she herself was part of a set of triplets and one of her sisters is a mother of twin children. Obviously, such coincidence made the news sweeter and happier for the whole family. When the second trimester rolled in, everything was going normal for her and she was enjoying the pains and gains of being pregnant. But suddenly one day, everything changed for her and TJ. Edwyna was rushed to the hospital when she went into labor prematurely and the doctors tried their best to stop the labor at just 25 weeks. But more difficulties were waiting on the corner for the couple.
2.Now comes the difficult journey
Edwyna gave birth to Sophie and Riley on 2nd October, 2012 and the babies were almost 4 months premature. The possibility of the twins surviving such an early birth was very low and as soon as they were born, they were whisked into the NICU and the nurses and doctors took 5 hours of intense labor to stabilize the babies. Both the twins had problems with their health as the result of premature birth, meaning that they had chronic lung disease and holes in heart. Riley even underwent as much as four operations to correct intestine and bladder problems. But both the parents kept talking to the babies whenever it was possible and kept encouraging them. After fighting a great battle for survival, both kids were reunited and you would be surprised to know that before they were to meet, they were crying and the moment their skin touched, they both stopped crying. Take a look at this family’s incredible journey.
Currently, both the babies are growing up beautifully and regularly go for checkups to the doctors.
