7-Year-Old Girl Explains Why Down Syndrome Is Not Something Scary But Exciting

7-year-old Sofia Sanchez has Down syndrome. She was abandoned at birth and grew up at an orphanage for the first year of her life in a small town in Ukraine. Her life changed when she was adopted by Jennifer and Hector Sanchez in 2010 and she joined them and her new brother, who also has Down syndrome, in the United States.

Sophia loves to perform and model, so she’s not afraid to be in front of the camera. So when her mom recently interviewed her and asked her a few questions about Down syndrome in honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Month, she was more than willing to give her answers. For her part, Jennifer said she had no idea that her daughter would come up with the perfect responses.

Sofia tells her mom that she is smart and that she can do anything she sets her mind to, and that she believes that Down syndrome isn’t “scary” but makes life “exciting.”

Not only are Sophia’s words inspiring, she is sending such a positive message about how to look at the world no matter how you are born or what challenges you may face!

Here’s the short video in full of Jennifer asking her daughter a few questions about having Down Syndrome, and Sofia’s wonderful answers.
